About the Role

Ocean to Earth Recruitment is working with an established and growing environmental consultancy to recruit an Environmental Construction Support professional based in Inverness.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in environmental science, environmental management or construction compliance who is looking to develop their career within a supportive and experienced team.

You'll work across a varied portfolio of renewable energy, housing and infrastructure projects throughout Scotland, helping to ensure construction activities meet environmental legislation, planning conditions and best practice.

The position combines practical site-based environmental monitoring with technical reporting, compliance advice and project support.

Applications are welcomed from experienced Environmental Clerks of Works (EnvCoWs), as well as environmental professionals with transferable skills who are keen to move into construction environmental management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake environmental compliance monitoring, inspections and audits across construction sites.

  • Monitor compliance with planning conditions, environmental legislation and regulatory requirements.

  • Prepare environmental compliance reports, Surface Water Management Plans (SWMPs) and Pollution Prevention Plans (PPPs).

  • Identify potential environmental risks and recommend practical mitigation measures.

  • Provide environmental advice and guidance to contractors and project teams.

  • Support the successful delivery of projects within agreed budgets and timescales.

  • Build positive working relationships with clients, contractors, regulators and other stakeholders.

  • Assist with technical reporting, project documentation and environmental management procedures.

  • Work collaboratively with environmental specialists across different disciplines.

About You

We're looking for someone who is proactive, organised and interested in delivering practical environmental solutions.

Essential requirements:

  • Degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Science or a related discipline.

  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Good time management, record-keeping and problem-solving skills.

  • Confidence communicating with contractors, clients and project teams.

Desirable experience:

  • Experience in environmental compliance or environmental monitoring on construction projects.

  • Previous Environmental Clerk of Works (EnvCoW) experience.

  • Knowledge of environmental legislation, policy and regulatory frameworks.

  • Understanding of Controlled Activities Regulations (CAR), Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS), Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), flood risk and pollution prevention.

  • Experience preparing environmental management plans or technical reports.

  • Relevant postgraduate qualification.

  • Current CSCS card.

  • Membership of the Association of Environmental Clerks of Works (AECoW).

Not every requirement is essential. If you have relevant environmental experience and are interested in developing your skills in construction environmental management, we encourage you to apply.

What's on Offer?

  • Competitive salary: £32,000 to £44,000, depending on experience.

  • Annual leave: 25 days plus bank holidays.

  • Hybrid working: Flexibility alongside project and site requirements.

  • Company pension scheme.

  • Career development, mentoring and progression opportunities.

  • Supportive and collaborative working environment.

  • Opportunities to work across renewable energy, housing and infrastructure projects.

  • Employee discounts, social events and volunteering days.

  • Exposure to a broad range of environmental disciplines and technical expertise.

You'll gain exposure to different stages of construction projects, work alongside experienced environmental professionals and develop practical skills that are increasingly valued across the environmental consultancy sector.
