About the Role

Work less. Enjoy more. Do work that matters.

We’re excited to share a brilliant opportunity with an environmental consultancy that's redefining how we work in the ecology space. This role isn’t just about what you do—it’s about how well you live while doing it. Picture a 4-day working week with full pay, a supportive team culture, and the space to grow, lead, and enjoy your career.

This isn't the usual rigid structure or corporate hierarchy. It’s a progressive team that values people, purpose, and play. You’ll be joining a tribe that laughs often, works hard when it counts, and always has each other's backs.

About the Role

We're on the lookout for an experienced Associate Ecologist to help lead and expand ecological services in the North, based out of a brand-new office in Leeds. This is a leadership role where you’ll drive exciting, complex projects, support a growing team, and help shape the regional ecology offering.

You’ll collaborate closely with senior leaders across ecology and other disciplines, all while enjoying the flexibility and balance of a genuine 4-day week.

You’ll Thrive Here If You:
🌱 Love leading meaningful ecological projects from concept to delivery
🌱 Enjoy mentoring, coaching, and building strong teams
🌱 Have the confidence and creativity to build new client relationships
🌱 Want a better balance—time for thinking, rest, family, or just space
🌱 Are motivated by collaboration, not competition
🌱 Value sustainability in both work and life

The Day-to-Day Will Include:

  • Leading surveys (UKHabs, protected species, habitat assessments)

  • Managing complex projects from scoping to completion

  • Producing and reviewing reports (PEAs, EIAs, BNGs, HRAs, etc.)

  • Supporting business development across the Yorkshire region

  • Building genuine client relationships

  • Collaborating with landscape, arboriculture, and planning specialists

  • Representing the ecology team at events and networking opportunities

What We’re Looking For:
✔ A strong academic background in ecology or biological sciences
✔ Experience leading ecological projects and managing teams
✔ Excellent knowledge of UK ecological legislation and planning policy
✔ At least one protected species licence (preferred but not essential)
✔ Full UK driving licence
✔ Strong communication, writing, and client-facing skills
✔ Member of CIEEM (working towards Chartership)

What You’ll Get in Return:
💚 4-day working week (Fridays off – every week)
💚 Full-time salary, with zero reduction in pay
💚 A culture that prioritises joy, trust, and personal wellbeing
💚 A clear path for growth, influence, and leadership
💚 A team that celebrates together—at work and beyond
