About the Role
The Opportunity
If you're an experienced ecologist looking for greater ownership, a stronger voice within a team, or the chance to gradually move into leadership, this could be an interesting next step.
This opportunity would suit someone who enjoys combining technical ecology with project management and client relationships, while working alongside experienced specialists across a broad range of environmental disciplines. There is scope to shape your role over time, with the option to take on team leadership responsibilities during your first year if that appeals.
You'll have the chance to work on a diverse range of projects, contribute to high-profile developments and be part of a supportive team where technical quality and collaboration are genuinely valued.
The Company
This well-established, multidisciplinary environmental consultancy has built a strong reputation for delivering pragmatic, high-quality solutions across ecology, hydrology, arboriculture, GIS, marine science and environmental planning.
With teams located across the UK, collaboration is at the heart of the business. The culture is friendly, supportive and down-to-earth, with a strong emphasis on helping people develop their careers and enjoy a healthy balance between work and life. People are encouraged to share ideas, support one another and contribute to the continued growth of the business.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll take ownership of projects from tender stage through to delivery, helping clients navigate ecological constraints while maintaining high technical standards.
Your work will include:

- Producing and reviewing technical reports, including EcIAs, HRA work and protected species licence applications.
- Building trusted relationships with clients and providing clear, pragmatic advice.
- Supporting and mentoring Ecologists and Assistant Ecologists, with opportunities to develop into line management and technical leadership roles.
- Providing direction to field teams and ensuring surveys are delivered safely and to a high standard.
- Working closely with colleagues from other environmental disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
About You
You'll already be operating at Senior Ecologist level or be ready to step into a more autonomous role.
You are likely to have:
- A degree in ecology or a related subject.
- Strong knowledge of UK ecology, legislation and survey methodologies.
- Experience delivering projects and producing high-quality technical reports.
- Protected species licences and advanced field skills in one or more specialist areas.
- Membership of CIEEM and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
- A collaborative approach and an interest in supporting more junior colleagues.
Additional skills in ornithology, botany or mitigation licensing would be welcomed, although these aren't essential.
You'll need a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use.
