About the Role

Our client is looking for a Senior Ecologist with a passion for ornithology to join their team, where a 4-day working week is standard, and values of caring, belonging, opportunity, enjoyment, and honesty shape every aspect of their culture and work.

Here, you’ll lead exciting projects, overseeing tasks such as:

  • Preliminary Ecology Appraisals
  • Ecological Impact Assessments
  • Habitats Regulations Assessments
  • Mitigation Strategies

You’ll take the lead in scoping, designing, and conducting ecological surveys, while building strong relationships with clients to develop standout portfolios. Just as important, you’ll mentor and support the next generation of ecological consultants and graduates.

Expect a diverse workload: no two days are the same. You’ll dive into varied projects, collaborate across disciplines, and adapt to the natural world’s unpredictability—all while thriving in a workplace where caring and camaraderie underpin everything.

This role offers you more than a job—it’s about being part of a family that embraces innovation, celebrates achievements, and seeks meaningful opportunities to elevate ecological work. Every day brings a balance of purpose-driven work, good laughs, and honest conversations. If these values resonate with you, this is your chance to thrive.

What we’re looking for:
To join our client in redefining ecological standards, you’ll need:

  • A strong academic background in ecology or biological sciences
  • Membership with CIEEM and a clear pathway toward Chartership
  • Expertise in ornithology, with experience conducting breeding and non-breeding bird surveys on large sites
  • Experience in Habitat Regulations Assessments, stakeholder engagement, and designing mitigation strategies
  • A deep understanding of ecological legislation and planning policy frameworks
  • Advanced survey skills, including extended Phase I/UKHabs and specialised species surveys
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to deliver clarity and confidence to clients and peers
  • Proven project management abilities, including leading teams, mentoring others, and delivering projects on time and within budget
  • A strong track record in business development and securing new work
  • A full UK driving licence

Our client believes in building a workplace where everyone belongs and feels empowered to seize opportunities. It’s not just about delivering great work—it’s about doing so with a team that cares deeply, supports one another, and celebrates the journey.

What’s on offer:

  • Salary: £38,430 - £45,460 (reflecting 2024 pay banding, with adjustments in January 2025)
  • A 4-day working week, giving you the freedom to balance work and life
  • A culture rooted in care, honesty, enjoyment, and opportunities for growth

Join our client’s mission to elevate the ecological landscape and be part of a team where your passion and values align. Apply now to start your journey!
