About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Ecologist to lead impactful projects in the South West region, guiding initiatives that include:

  • Preliminary Ecology Appraisals
  • Ecological Impact Assessments
  • Habitats Regulations Assessments
  • Mitigation Strategies

You should have a strong ability to scope, design, and lead ecological surveys and be comfortable building strong client relationships to secure work for both the team and yourself, creating an impressive client and site portfolio. We're also looking for someone passionate about mentoring our developing consultants and graduates.

Expect a variety of tasks. Engage in meaningful projects, work across disciplines, and adapt to the dynamic nature of ecology. While the pace is lively, there are times to pause and reflect—no two days will be the same.

Our client values innovation over convention, often choosing unconventional paths that deliver results. They’re committed to the work, celebrating successes and fostering a collaborative, supportive culture. Every day is filled with impactful work, good laughs, and open conversations. If this sounds like your ideal environment, you’ll fit right in.

They’re not just part of the ecological landscape—they’re advancing it. To join this journey and set new standards, you’ll need:

  • Strong academic qualifications in ecology or biological sciences
  • CIEEM membership, ideally working towards Chartership
  • In-depth knowledge of the legislative and planning policy framework
  • Excellent survey skills, including extended Phase I/UKHabs and specialized species surveys, particularly with bats (at least a Level 2 Bat Mitigation Licence)
  • Experience liaising with clients, statutory bodies, and LPAs
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong report-writing and reviewing abilities
  • Proven project management skills, including leadership, mentoring, and ensuring timely project delivery within budget, exceeding client expectations
  • A solid track record in business development and securing independent projects
  • A collaborative, value-driven approach that aligns with the team’s ethos
  • A full UK driving license

You’ll be joining an inspiring team of like-minded individuals who support each other, value clients, and contribute positively to communities. Get ready for an adventure.
