This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced ecologist to take on a senior leadership role, working remotely across Scotland while contributing to high-impact ecological projects.

About the Role

As a Principal Ecologist, you will play a pivotal role in delivering ecological consultancy services, leading projects, and driving business growth. You will manage complex projects, provide technical expertise, mentor junior ecologists, and engage with key stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of ecological solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership:

  • Lead and manage ecological consultancy projects from inception to completion.

  • Ensure projects meet quality standards, deadlines, and budget constraints.

  • Oversee ecological survey programs, impact assessments, and mitigation strategies.

Technical Expertise:

  • Provide expert advice on habitat assessment, species identification, biodiversity conservation, and regulatory compliance.

  • Conduct ecological surveys, data analysis, and reporting.

  • Develop strategic solutions for clients, ensuring compliance with environmental legislation.

Client Engagement:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders.

  • Develop tailored ecological solutions to meet client requirements.

  • Build and maintain strong, professional relationships within the industry.

Team Leadership:

  • Mentor and support junior ecologists, fostering their professional growth.

  • Encourage knowledge sharing, best practices, and innovation across teams.

Business Development:

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, strengthening the consultancy’s market position.

  • Contribute to proposal development and client presentations.

  • Represent the consultancy at networking events and industry conferences.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field (postgraduate qualification preferred).

  • Extensive experience in ecological consultancy, with proven success in project management and client engagement.

  • Strong knowledge of ecological survey techniques, impact assessments, and regulatory frameworks.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships.

  • Membership in relevant professional bodies (e.g., CIEEM, IEMA) and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
