Location: Midlands-based with flexibility; travel across the UK required for site visits, client meetings, and team collaborations.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Ecologist to become part of an innovative team dedicated to ecological research, habitat restoration, and sustainability. Key Responsibilities

Field Surveys & Ecological Assessments

  • Conduct UKHab and species-specific surveys to support rewilding and conservation initiatives.

  • Perform breeding and wintering bird surveys, contributing to avian population studies.

  • Utilize the Coreo App and other digital tools to collect and analyze field data effectively.

Rewilding & Habitat Restoration

  • Assist in planning and executing rewilding and nature recovery projects.

  • Develop environmental improvement plans, rewilding strategies, and bio-indicators for ecosystem health.

  • Support species reintroduction programs in alignment with conservation objectives.

Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA) and Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRA).

  • Compile mitigation licence applications and ensure adherence to protected species legislation.

  • Produce clear, high-quality ecological reports aligned with UK biodiversity laws and best practices.

Client Engagement & Project Development

  • Collaborate with clients and stakeholders, offering expert ecological advice.

  • Develop proposals and tenders to secure funding and future conservation projects.

  • Ensure client needs are met while promoting sustainability and biodiversity goals.

Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) & GIS Applications

  • Use GIS tools for data analysis and project planning.

  • Conduct Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments and prepare reports using UK habitat classification systems.

  • Recommend habitat creation and restoration measures to meet biodiversity targets.

Collaboration & Project Coordination

  • Work closely with ecologists, landscape planners, and project teams to align conservation efforts.

  • Play an active role in shaping nature recovery strategies.

  • Lead or assist in ecological monitoring and post-development impact assessments.

Ideal Candidate Profile

We’re looking for an ecologist with consultancy experience, a strong grasp of wildlife legislation, and practical field survey expertise. The ideal candidate should be well-versed in UKHab surveys, familiar with the Coreo App, and eager to explore and protect the UK’s diverse ecosystems. Proficiency in GIS, strategic problem-solving, and strong communication skills are key assets for this role.

Essential Requirements

  • Degree in Ecology or a related discipline.

  • Membership of CIEEM (or eligibility).

  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

  • Extensive experience in UKHab surveys.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in ecological tendering.

  • Expertise in bird surveys (breeding and wintering).

  • At least one Protected Species Licence.

  • Experience in EcIA and HRA reporting.

  • Mitigation licence preparation.

  • GIS mapping proficiency.

  • Biodiversity Net Gain assessments and habitat classification expertise.
