About the Role

Senior / Consultant Ecologist

Oxford | Hybrid Working | £31,000–£45,000 DOE

The Opportunity

If you're enjoying ecology but feel ready for greater ownership, more varied projects or the chance to develop a specialism within a genuinely supportive team, this could be worth exploring.

This is an opportunity to join a well-established consultancy where technical quality is valued, career development is actively encouraged and people are trusted to shape their own path. Whether you're already operating at Senior level or you're an experienced Consultant ready to take the next step, you'll be joining a collaborative team working across a diverse range of projects throughout the South East and beyond.

You'll have the freedom to broaden your expertise, strengthen client relationships and play an important role in delivering practical ecological solutions that create positive outcomes for both clients and nature.

The Company

This independent ecological consultancy has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality ecological advice across a broad range of development sectors. Now part of a wider partnership of respected ecological consultancies, the business continues to grow while retaining the supportive, close-knit culture that has been central to its success.

As a CIEEM Registered Practice, technical excellence and professional development sit at the heart of the business. Team members are encouraged to develop specialist interests, gain protected species licences and progress professionally with access to experienced mentors and ongoing training.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Managing a varied portfolio of ecological projects from survey through to reporting and delivery.

  • Building trusted relationships with clients and acting as a key technical contact.

  • Producing and reviewing high-quality ecological reports, including Ecological Impact Assessments.

  • Supporting and mentoring junior colleagues as they develop their careers.

  • Working closely with specialists across a range of ecological disciplines.

  • Contributing to innovative habitat creation and biodiversity enhancement projects where your interests align.

About You

You'll have a solid grounding in ecological consultancy and enjoy balancing fieldwork, project management and client interaction.

You'll likely have around three or more years' consultancy experience, be confident producing technical reports and have a good understanding of UK environmental legislation and planning policy. Experience managing projects and developing client relationships will be important, along with CIEEM membership and a full UK driving licence.

A protected species licence—particularly bats—would be highly valued, although experience in other specialist areas such as ornithology, great crested newts or habitat creation would also be welcomed.

Most importantly, you'll be someone who enjoys collaborative working, takes pride in delivering quality work and is keen to continue developing technically and professionally.

What's on Offer

Alongside a competitive salary of £31,000–£45,000, you'll benefit from a package designed to support both your career and work-life balance, including:

  • Hybrid and flexible working with TOIL.

  • Up to 27 days' annual leave plus bank holidays.

  • Company pension with salary sacrifice.

  • Comprehensive training and ongoing technical development.

  • Support towards protected species licences and specialist skills.

  • CIEEM membership paid.

  • Home office equipment.

  • Sabbatical scheme.

  • Enhanced company sick pay.

  • Cycle to Work scheme.

  • Employee referral scheme.

  • Business mileage paid at the highest approved rates.

  • Regular social events and a genuinely friendly, dog-friendly office environment.

Location & Flexibility

This role is based from the Oxford office, with hybrid working and flexible hours available. Travel to sites across the region will form part of the role, so a full UK driving licence is required.
